What's this all about, then?

You know when you're watching a movie, and there's a prominent actor in a smallish part, and he turns out to be the killer, or the rapist, or the what-have-you, the Bad Guy of some description?

That's Timothy Hutton Syndrome.

Here we'll list the movies where it occurs, as well as the various strains of THS.

BEWARE: Here There Be Spoilyrs!

Know Your THS

There are several different strains of THS.

1) A well-known actor in a small part.
Timothy Hutton in The General's Daughter

2) A recognizable face as a featured extra.
Leland Orser in The Bone Collector

3) Well-known actor "hidden" until the third act.
Kevin Spacey in Se7en

4) Bad guy. No, good guy! Nah... bad guy.
Edward Hermann in The Lost Boys

We will try to differentiate for you as we go.

Edward Hermann in The Lost Boys (1987)

We just came up with this one. This is a strain of THS where they want you to think he's the bad guy, then they let him off the hook -- only to bring him back around as the bad guy in the end!
